Problem Starting
I have a problem with starting my 94 Jimmy. Sometimes it starts up no problem and other times it takes a couple tries, but once its running it runs. From reading some other posts, Fuel pressure should be around 60psi. I need to go get a fuel pressure gauge and test it and I'll let you guys know. But I was wondering if anyone else has any clues about what it may be. The guy I bought it from said it might be fuel pump, but if it was fuel pump, wouldnt it die while running? Is the fuel pump on it last leg?

thanks for replying. From just getting the truck the other day, this is what I have noticed. It only seems to be hard to get started if it sits for a long period of time. If I run to the store and get back in it, it starts no problem. I can turn the key and it will try to catch and I try to touch the gas to help it, it dies. But if I spray carb cleaner into the Throttle body it starts no problem. I havent been able to get a fuel pressure gauge yet. I hope this bit of more info can shed some light on to the problem.

so I should get the battery tested and if need be get a new one and I should be good to go? that simple?

well that is assuming it does turn out to be the same problem. However im not sure how you can determine that its a bad battery because i know i had mine tested at one point and they said it was fine and it wasn't. and it doesn't matter how new or old they are...mine was only 6 months old.

check fuel pump relay, it may be working intermittently.

How/Where can I check the fuel pump relay? It seems that when the truck sits for a long period of time(overnight) is when its hard to start without the aid of carb cleaner. But on short period of times it starts no problem.

Smell your oil dipstick, does it smell like gas, or like oil??? I had a bigtime fuel leak inside the intake and it was a beeotch to start up, but once running it was allright.

I think on 94' it is on firewall behind brake booster. My father-in-laws did the same thing, sometimes it would crank right up, sometimes not, did it for a month! I keep a spare
