Problem Starting
#11
Just to be clear:
the "Fuel Pump Relay" is on the fire wall above the brake booster and the "Fuel Pressure Relay" is in the upper manifold or somewhere around there.
I was confused, Because I was reading some other posts about starting issues and in a couple posts I see "FPR" and I'm not sure what they mean.
But you want me to replace my "Fuel Pump Relay"?

FPR == Fuel Pressure Regulator - It is a mechanical device inside the intake plenum.

Picked up a Fuel Pump relay this afternoon. I'll throw it on and let you know how she starts tomorrow morning. Hopefully right up. If not I'm going back to the Pick a Part yard and check out a Bravada they had there, the Intake hasn't been touched yet, but I took the vacuum hoses I needed from it. So I might be able to get a "spider" depending how it looks. I'll keep you posted.

OK the fuel pump relay didnt help this morning with starting. Still took a couple tries. So I went to the Pick a Part again after work and picked a spider from a 94 Bravada. I posted about it in another Thread. I'll keep you informed about how it goes. Hopefully put it on this weekend.

Update - I finally was able to get a fuel pressure gauge and I hooked it up this evening after the weather and engine cooled down abit. When I turn the key to just ON, no cranking, the pressure goes up to 50 psi and quickly drops. So what does that mean?
I havent put in that used spider yet, just been working alot lately. Maybe this holiday weekend I will.

Next step would be to open up the intake and have a look inside. Your pressure doesn't get high enough and the quick drop is likely a failed FPR.

Yup, you are going to have a leak inside the manifold. You may want to go buy a new FPR for about 80 bucks at the parts store if thats what is leaking. If its your spider or nut kit, then use the old used stuff, but still put the new FPR on it and install it. You can use the used FPR, I did and havent had a problem yet, but thats cause I am a cheap bastard though and would rather spend my money on tattoos and fishing trips and women and booze. 50psi is not enough to operate the spider injector unit. Have a look at the connector for powering the injectors, if its loose and sloppy like I know its going to be, buy that part too, its about 15 bucks and is called your fuel injection harness, just cut off the old one and solder on the new one. It should be nice and tight with very little play in it when connected. The fuel erodes the rubber thing that holds it on tight after many years, and the new one has an insert made of silicone or something else other than rubber. Rubber doesnt like petroleum products over time.

Injector Harness - is that the connection that is on top of the spider, with like 2 little prongs? If it is, the one I disconnected off the used spider I got, yeah the rubber was all soft and smooshy. I already read in another thread about the harness being 2 red and blue wires and I already tried to wiggly them and nothing happen which I guess is a good thing. I picked up a plenum gasket today when I was getting the wifes brakes, I'll probably do it tomorrow. I priced the FPR and it was only $50 bucks, but I'll try my used one first and see what happens.
When I remove my plenum, what should I expect to see in? What do I NOT want to see? I know the Bravada that I got the used one from was all dirty with a black paste.
Whats a Nut Kit?

FPR Update
Ok I finally had some free time and I put the used Spider on. No help, seemed to worsen the problem. Truck will only start with the help of Starting fluid. Fuel pressure with the used Spider is only at 40psi at "ON". Jumps to 45ish when trying to start it.
So I went and picked up a new FPR and put it on this afternoon. Checked all the connection before putting the plenum back on, no leaks or squirters when the key is "ON", pressure is still only at 40psi. When running pressure is constant at 50psi, even when revving. So what now?
When I took the plenum off, my passenger side was clean compared to the driver side that was all black and gunky. I read somewhere on here that someone said the clean side vs the dirty side. What cause's the clean vs dirty sides?
Does anyone have any more Ideas on my why my truck wont start on its own?

Wow i dont know what else to try maybe you should get a new fuel pump thats what i would do next to be honest
