Prom Module

Prom Module
Hello all,
my 91 s-10 4.3 4x4 3 months ago had a ecm installed my AAMCO. a couple of months later, I started to notice my truck perform strangly. One night on my way back from work i smelled burning electronics. I stopped my car and popped the hood, and couldn't smell anything under there, and couldnt smell anything after that anywhere. It still ran normal for a while but eventually i started tno notice performance problems. It wouldnt keep proper timing I would set it to 0 degrees but it would run poorly with a low idle. the voltmeter would fluctuate with a rough idle. I checked my battery, changed my alternator, to no avail. Finally the thing stopped running, and when it did it ran extreamly rich. black smoke and backfire all over the place . So I did the one thing I should have done in the first place, I checked the code. I got a code 51 which as many of you know is a faulty Prom module.Took it back to AAMCO to see if it was something they did. he said not likely, and not only is it a new project but it is going to be very difficult to track down a prom module that matches my truck. So here is my actual question. Is it really that difficult to come by a new prom module. what are my options on this? I looked everywhere for a module online, and I dont really get many answers, or options. I dont question AAMCO's conclusion only the difficulty of finding the part, to me it doesnt make sense. The guy said its going to take a while to find it, which gives him the option to take as long as he pleases which last time was 3 weeks without a car. I usually fix things myself, but when it comes to electical/computer, im clueless. help me out save me some money here. where can i get a prom module?
thanks in advance

rockauto.com has them, or can get them within 5 days (says its nonstock).
Hope this helps... If you need the computer itself they have those also, $70-100 depending on who remanufactured it. The question is, and this will have to be answered by someone more knowledgeable than myself about these things, do you need to replace the computer and the prom at the same time? Because if the prom was smoked by a short in the computer, will the new prom also get smoked?

What is the number on the computer you have now? I have a 88 s-10 4.3 vin =z I believe it's a 8062 or something like that. I have a extra computer with the proms that is in good working condition. I just dont know if yours being a 4wd would have a different computer

Thanks all
Well I dont have my truck now cause the fellas at AAMCO have my car, probably havnt even looked at it yet. I really do appreciate the links, now I can do it myself. as for the computer number, like i said I dont have my truck. Why did i take it to AAMCO? well they installed the computer so I sent it there to see if they would check if it was their fault, so if the comp is shorting out the prom they will probably replace both. So righ now I'm on their time. this is why i fix things myself. thanks again for the resources they will be used. and when i get my truck back I'll let you know the ECM specifics. Your quick replies indicate that you are all valuable resources, coul have used you during the great CV fiasco of 09', would have saved me some time and money then.
thanks again

a little update,
i decided to update this post just cause nothing is more irritating than a story without an ending. So AAMCO replaced the computer. Apparently they may or may have not put in the wrong computer. Though they would never admit it I'm pretty sure thats what it was cause they didnt charge anything. So if your car will not hold proper timing, runs rich out of nowhere, and eventually will not run. maybe its the computer.
