Default Rear tailgate unlocker

Well, when I bought the truck, i broke that latch off that opens up the rear tailgate by twisting it too hard. I found a tailgate open at the wreckers and removed the part that I broke off. Thing is that my trucks tailgate is up and I cant figure out how to open it up. I think the only way is going to be to take apart the inside of the tailgate from inside the truck while its up.... That sucks. Anyone have any ideas on how i can get this gate open as Im a little big to be messing around in that cramped space...

If the center of your latch is still there and OK a big pair of vise grios might get it turned. If not ay least put the back seat down so you won't be so cramped.

my offroad truck is the same way. if you do get that interior piece off theres two big access holes on each side of the tailgate where you can easily grab the rods and open your tailgate. i do it all the time

Cool man. Just gotta wait for this darn rain to stop so I can fix the tailgate and put my stereo in! Ive got a DVD deck, 2 pairs of component speakers, 1000Wx5channel amp, 1 farad cap, and a type R 10 reverse mounted (bridged coils) in a sealed box to go in the back.

You think you got enough brother? Does this take a nuclear powerplant to run?

Ha ha no thats the leftovers from my big system days... Used to have a trio more of those type R subs and a few more amps. Now I have terrible hearing anyways, and we gotta keep the trunk space practical. Used to work in a stereo shop so ive collected little bits here and there.

To get it open you are going to have to take the trim pieces off from inside the vehicle then you can get a pair of channel locks and pull on the lever and it pops right open.

Well, Ive managed to get it open, I just jam a screwdriver in the keyhole and turn it as long as the power locks have been clicked open.

I have the part to change it, Ive just been slacking, working on other peples cars, and busy doing training on the weekends for scouts canada.
