best way is to diagnose the fuel system
https://blazerforum.com/forum/tech-a...agnosis-23038/
sounds like you have leaking injectors or bad pressure valve

Smelling gas in the crankcase isnt a good sign..
Some people dont know that flooring the pedal and holding it there after starting to crank will minimize fuel delivery and clear a 'flooded' condition.
pumping the pedal will send more gas... yes just like a carb and that's on purpose.

if it is injectors then would it be common for them to all the sudden go out?

mine did its possible you had a pinhole leak and now it got larger over time
doing a leakdown test would show you if your fuelsystem has a leak

you can pickup a gauge at your local auto parts
some auto parts have a loan a tool program
a gauge shouldn't cost no more then 30 40 bucks if you cant get a loan
the link i posted above has all the information you need to run the tests

Actually I have come to the conclusion that the fuel regulator on the spider is just a POS and always fails. It could be because of a vacuum leak or the timing being off or something but I have gone through a few in the last few years and that is why I would like to roll my truck out to a corn field and blow it up! If you take the top sensor off the plenum and smell tons of gas in the intake it's the regulator. Yes you can get a fuel pressure testor but that will only tell you that you have pressure to the spider. Save $ and just get a new regulator and expect to replace it in a year or so again. And since your oil smells like fuel then I am positive it's the regulator, change your oil as well.

Lindertech used to sell a conversion piece that allowed the use of the newer SCFI FPR on the CPI spider. The SCFI FPR is a much more robust design and very rarely fails, unlike the factory style CPI FPR. Why no one else in the aftermarket has improved the design is baffling...
