Default Replacement of Back Window Struts

During my examination of the vehicle (89 s10) i realized that the back window struts (And thus the defrost) are not attached/functioning.

I'm not sure if they are sheared off, or just detached somehow... They don't exactly look sheared, but i'm not positive. Anyone have any experience working with these things?

I am confused here, is it just the defroster tabs that are not attached? if so, This is an extremely common problem. Bad design from GM causes them to break often, You can either live with it, or buy new struts to re attach them, or even solder them in place.

if that is not what you are talking about, photos would help.
