Default Tail lights stay on with no key in ignition

I swapped my steering column (worn out tilt) for non tilt. All the connectors matched the cable coding. Now my tail lights stay on even with no key in the ignition. I have no idea what is wrong as it now does the same thing with my old steering column hooked up. However when I unplug the turn signal harnes that is in the steering column from the main wiring harness in the dash the lights turn off. But again even with the old turn signal harnes hooked up I get the same results the lights stay on, I unplug the harness and they go off. How is the darn turn signal harness related to brakes I don't get it. Help Paleaze.

By any chance while you were swaping your columns did you mess with your brake light switch. If you managed to ground it or knock it out of adjustment the lights will come on.

Are you talking about the running lights or brake lights? If it is your brake lights I agree with the above post. Take a look at your brake switch. If it is your running lights, either a ground or short.
