Tranny swap 87 Blazer to 93 jimmy ?
New Member. Hello everyone, My question is can I take a (auto) transmission from ' 86 or '87 (Engine 2.8) Chev S10 Blazer RWD and put it into a '93 GMC Jimmy (4.3 Engine) Auto RWD? This Jimmy has been sitting several years and I have yet to see if It will even turn over. Title was signed over & notarized but never registered, $$$ to get that fixed but guy wants $200 bucks for it and the body & interior is really nice for it's age. Transmission would not shift to drive is why it was parked. So does anyone know if this swap would work? Thanks in advance..

Looks like I am in the same boat.
My grandfather just handed me down his two old 1st gen s-10 blazers. one is an 84 with the 2.8, the other is an 89 with the 4.3.
The plan was to pull the transmission from the 2.8 and put it into the 4.3.
Yall are saying that this will not work?

LAlowrado - The 700R4, 4l60, and 4l60E are all essentially the same case and bolt pattern so would fit the 4.3. The main issue is in the electronic transmission controls, or lack thereof. I'm not 100% sure what version would be in your 89, but easiest thing is to get the same version of the trans to swap in.
It's possible to swap out one for the other, but going from mechanical to electronically controlled on a car that didn't come with that transmission will require a standalone controller.
I know this is 2 months old now, but OP, Have you tried dropping the pan to take a look? It may be something less involved like your linkage, or the gear selector inside the pan. . . Unless of course you mean it goes into D but doesn't move. I've had a heck of a time chasing transmission problems myself, don't give up. . any of it is doable with enough research and planning.

As a last resort before finding a new trans, I am told that replacing the trans fluid and filter and putting some lucas additive may help.

The issue with mine is no reverse. All forward gears are functional at this time.
I know that it needs to be replaced, but if this helps limp it along another few months I will be happy. It isn't my daily driver so if it doesn't work oh well I will just have to wait a little longer.
