you can still get a wavier for emissions even if you don't pass. Depending on the state if you spend an excess of 50-450 bucks(in Alaska here they set it at 450, in other states its diffrent) on trying to pass emissions and it still cant pass they give you a free one. what you can do it buy all the parts (o2 sensor, MAF, new spark plugs) and go to the emissions testing site and show them the reciept that you bought all the crap and "installed it", get the pass and return the stuff back to the store.

My 99 Jimmy passed the emission test here in Ontario with a cat that was rattling away but just barely. They didn't even make mention of the check engine light that has been on since I bought it.

I had a 92 Caravan with no EGR or air pump that had high Nox and failed the test. We emptied the washer bottle and refilled it with water and then ran a vacuum line to it with a crimped piece of brake line in between to regulate the flow and it passed but just barely which was perfect.

back in the day, you had the "golden cadillac" that past the test a milllion times for all the vehicles that couldnt. Now its all done by computer, by obd2, by registration and its nothing to do with emmisions and all to do with tremendous revenues to new york. You cant even scrape off an inspection sticker carefully, it just reads void. You cant re register without a valid inspection sticker, and swaping obd1 and obd2 vehicles to get re registered has been caught now too. If an inspection station here gets caught trying to do an inspection in the cuff, they get fined. Its a big joke, all about taking in more revenue, just like all the roadside dot inspections where guys get fined for no msds sheets for a can of wd40.

I just bought my truck and when I did a tune up I decided to clean the egr and put a screened gasket on it and when I took off the egr it had a metal plate glued to it and the pcv valve was so loose u could pull it out with ur pinky finger.... No resistance at all I'm suprised that it passed im like that. Needles to say I replaced the egr and pcv valve

The way that my brother passes emissions testing in VA with his GTO straight piped with a LS3 putting 500whp down is by having it registered to my 56 y.o. mother in MI.... he hasnt had any problems yet... been pulled over twice for speeding and the cops were more interested in his engine than they were in writing the ticket

Don't use the methl it eats the rubber in the fuel pump. I dumped a bunch of that stuff in my truck and it died during the test!

I see a lot of people saying to use denatured alcohol but I dunno. I may just put like 3/4 tank of gas and use the CRC emission pass stuff. It worked for me several years back so I will try it again.

I also forgot about my timing being off as it pings under a load so I'm going to put the timing light on it tomorrow and get that set right. I read where that can cause high levels of HC's and NOx.
