Default 2001 Bravada ABS Questions

Hello!

I've got a 2001 Bravada that's in otherwise good condition, except that recently the ABS hydraulic pump sounds like it's working overtime, and it doesn't stop pumping after the ignition is turned off. The ABS light is on, but the Brake light on the dash is not, and the brakes feel good otherwise. I have to pull the 60 amp fuse under the hood to get it to stop. I'm not too familiar with ABS, and I'm wondering if it's the pump that's malfunctioning, or possibly a sensor?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

What codes are in memory? That will help guide us to the problem.

Can I get the codes without a code reader? Do I need to take it somewhere to get them?

On your 01 Bravada the codes must be retrieved with an ABS capable scan tool. The typical "code reader" that the auto parts stores use will not access them.

Captain Hook is correct that generic OBD-II "code readers" won't get ABS codes.

Around here, O'Reilly Auto Parts has the Bosch OBD-1300 scan tool as their "loaner" or "we'll read your codes for free" tool. That one will read ABS and Airbag codes from some years of GM vehicles. It definitely reads the Air Bag and ABS codes on my 1996 Bravada. The ABS on these vehicles was upgraded/completely different starting in 1998 I think, so it might not read a 1999 model like yours. It's worth a try if you have an O'Reilly nearby.

The Bosch scan tool definitely won't read ABS codes on the wife's 2006 Jeep.
