MAS replacement

MAS replacement
I had a P101 code thrown, cleaned the Mass airflow sensor and it was good for about 6 months. It came back so I thought I would replace the sensor.
About 2 hours after replacement I get a right bank lean condition code.
I put the old sensor back in, not wanting to ruin the engine by running lean and over heating the pistons.
Question, If I put the new sensor in and get the lean code again, will the system self-correct or do I need to have it rescanned?
I don't know if the engine is running lean but again I don't want to burn a hole in a piston running lean, nor am I thrilled to give $120 to the dealership to plug in a computer for 5 minutes to correct is unless I have to.

If everything is correct after a gm drive cycle your light will go off by itself.
P0101 Trouble Code - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Range/Performance Problem

All these don't have to happen in order but do have to happen, thats why alot of guys will tell you just go drive it for a hundred miles and bring it back.
You can do it by the list in about fifteen min.

mass airflow sensor problems STILL!
Okay, I replaced the Mass Airflow sensor with a new one. Got the P0171 code for lean on right bank and P0174 for lean on the left bank. I did both the 100 mile drive and the GM test drive as referred in the replies. I am still getting the P0171 and P0174 codes, I also sometimes get P0171 P D and P0174 P D codes. If I go back to the original sensor I get the P0101 after about 2 weeks. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,
Mike
