Default fogged windshield losing antifreeze

My son has a 1996 blazer. We bought it this spring. At that time I replaced the lower intake manifold gasket. It has been working fine since with no loss of antifreeze until recently. He said it started to fog the windows this week and there was a sweet smell. I checked and the rad fluid was low. I checked the oil and the level is good and doesn't look frothy. I topped up the rad and we went for a quick ride (about 2 minutes) and there was no heat blowing when we tried the defrost. Temp on the gauge was around 100. Any ideas? It was dark when I looked at it tonight but should have a chance to look at it tommorrow when the suns up.

P.S. We did install a new CD player this weekend past in place of the original radio/cassette player.

What happens when the engine tries to get up to temp? If it only hit 100 in 2 min, that may or may not tell us anything.

x3 on heater core. Its not the most difficult thing to replace, but is very time consuming.
