Default Looking at buying a Blazer

Hey guys and gals I was looking into buying a 2nd Gen Blazer. I wanted to know if there is anything I should look out for? Are there any common problems to these cars at this age.

My wife has a 2001 GMC Jimmy she bought new and it has been a pretty good car. It did get a trans rebuild about 150K as well as the hub/bearings and fuel pump. It has 240k on it now and still going.

Any and all input welcome.

Thanks

2003 and newer already have the injector upgrade, no secondary air system, and no EGR valve, (8th character in the VIN is "X") which are all improvements over the 2002 and older models. Automatic climate control is more expensive to diagnose & repair when it fails, and the same applies for Auto 4WD. Other than that, they all have the same common issues, (same parts). If you live in the "rust belt", 2 doors rust out just ahead of the rear wheel opening on both sides.

I agree with Captain, although I can add some of the common mechanical issues ive dealt with.

Check For:
-Loose front end, BJ's / Idler & pitman are weak links
-Leaking LIM gaskets
-Hard starting or misfiring under load due to leaking FPR/poppets (03 and older only)
-Front diff axle seal leaks and split CV boots (if 4x4)
-4wd engagement (if 4x4). Vacuum problems / front axle actuators and t-case switch problems are common.
-broken driver side motor mount
-Intermittent ABS/Brake lights on after several key cycles.
-Rust /rot on rockers, door seams and above / around rear wheel well.

I could keep going if you want lol.

Hope that helps...

No you don't have to keep going I think I have enough to go on.

Yes it does help, thank you.

That's not a "fair" analogy...... quite a few of the things are normal wear and tear items.......& it doesn't seem to me that your trk wasn't very well cared for!!!!! Lol I hope you didn't pay much for it I personally have done tons of work to mine! However in all fairness the woman that owned it previously ran the snot out of it!!!! I did however pay next to nothing for it, but have a lot tied up in it now
