need help with keyless entry

Default need help with keyless entry

i just bought a 02 blazer and the dealer didnt have the keyless remotes. i called a gm dealer and they said i have to order the part thru them because they have to get a remote with the same last 8 digits of my vin number. is this true or can i use any 02 blazer remote.

The remote's ID # has to match the ID # on the receiver in the truck. Otherwise I'd be able to walk around and unlock any other 2000 blazer in the parking lot..

Not only must it match the FCC ID on the receiver, but the remote must be programmed to the truck. You can buy remotes at quite a few online retailers that will include programming instructions.

First, I would check to make sure that your RPO code list includes the code AU0. If it does, then you have factory RKE (remote keyless entry). Once you determine if you have RKE, then you can locate the RKE receiver. It is located just behind the DLC (data link connector) on top of the hush panel above the gas & brake pedals. Look at the label on the RKE module for the FCC code. This will have an "R" code while the transmitter will have a "T" code. You will know what I mean when you see the code.
