Leave it up to an me to f&ck this up do bad. Attempted to rotate new distributor back 1 tooth, thought I had the retaining bolt on all the way tight but as I didn't, fired motor up and heard/saw the distribution moving so shut it off, removed bolt and retightened it. Ram really bad. Attempted to move distributor forward 1 tooth and now can't get it to run at all. Let me guess, get it towed to mechanic and have a professional fix it

No. Just keep trying. Remember that rotor should point at the "6" on the base of the distributor. It may take a few tried to get it right. If it doesnt line up, take dissy out and use a flathead screwdriver inside of dissy hole to turn the oil pump until the rotor lines up when you drop it in. Remember that the dissy turns as it goes down, so factor that in to where you set the oil pump.

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. With a socket and a ratchet, manually rotate the crankshaft clockwise until it is lined up like this:

Remove the distributor cap, the rotor must be positioned like this:

If not, remove the distributor and reposition it. Reconnect the battery cable. If the engine starts, you got it right. If not, remove the distributor and rotate the shaft 180 degrees and reinstall it.

What size socket does that take? 3/8" or 1/2" drive?

Distributor hold down bolt is a piece of cake if you use a 10mm 1/4" drive swivel socket and a 6" extension.
