Service engine soon

If your Blazer is not acting funny it is probably nothing serious... More than likely a sensor of some kind went bad??? Odat nailed it by saying go to your local parts store and they should have a hand held scanner thing they can use to track down the issue...

I personally don't know lol... I have never did it myself to be honest... My service engine light has been on since the day I bought it 3 years or so ago lol! I am trying too see how long that stupid light will last before it finally burns out

Some things are a low level problem like an O2 sensors heater circuit but some are more serious like misfires that can damage the engine. As suggested, get the codes read next time you pass a parts store.

If you plan on owning a Blazer for awhile, or do you own maintenance on any car, it's a good idea to invest in a scan tool of your own.
They aren't expensive, I got a cheap one for like $30, and a little nicer one, gives a description of the code, and views live data as well, for around $90.
Sure, the parts stores will do it, but you have to drive there, wait, and then listen to them give you (usually) bad advice.
And sometimes you'll have a no start condition, and you can't get to the parts store. Having the code is really helpful for diagnosing

This may sound like a dumb question but how do these scan tools actually work? Where do they connect to a vehicle in order to read the codes? Like I said earlier, I have never used one or had it done at a auto parts store... After reading from others on this thread maybe I should buy one myself
