Default rollback kilometers.....

Was doing my heater core.

I have a 2005 GMC Jimmy 2dr, I am in Canada, it has 150,000 km (about 90,000 miles).

Took my cluster out and saw this??? WTF? Am I reading this right? Looks like its out of an auto wrecker and they wrote 2003 S10...…… I am in BC Canada,

- Bought the truck in Dec 2017
- Truck was brought from another province earlier in 2017 (Saskatchewan)
- the date on the cluster may be the date it was sold? 2016?

Man am I mad..... Is the odometer stored on the cluster or on the ECU?

Thanks guys....

Mileage is stored on the cluster. Hopefully they replaced the cluster with one that had similar mileage ..

i was doing a heat core in my 2005 jimmy. Had to take the dash and cluster out.

Under my cluster, I found this....... is this what I think it is?

my 2005 has 90,000 miles which is pretty good. Is this a cluster from a different vehicle???

im in B.C. Canada and the vehicle came from another province in 2017 and I bought it shortly after. If I didn’t know any better I would guess a cluster was changed in the year before. Help guys.

That is a cluster from an 03 that was purchased summer 16. It will read the mileage of the 03. Mine is a 2000 with 130,000 miles and my instrument cluster fried. The replacement I bought used reads 60,000. The actual mileage on the truck is stored in the pcm as well. It can be accessed with a higher end scanner. The clusters go out fairly often and used replacements are cheap. I thought it was odd that I could cut the appeared miles on my truck by over half for $25.

thanks for doing this! The first thread I created disappeared on me so I made a new one, thanks.

1) it was never in a wreck (at least to my knowledge). It has a clean title.

2) I will track someone down with a high end scanner to see what the mileage is. If they swapped the ECU as well, I may be screwed.

This is really annoying. I overpaid big for this darn vehicle.

THanks

I'm pretty sure that cluster and mileage changes are suppose to be reported to the DMV, so if it were done by a shop, that SHOULD have gotten done, in which case the title should indicate the cluster and mileage change and when. But if Joe Smith changrd it in their drive way, chances are they're not going to report it...

But yeah a good scanner can read the computer system and tell you the trut mileage. Not a basic OBDII scanner like Advance Auto has, it would have to be a higher end technician scanner to dig that deep, or a dealership.

It will probably require using a GM Tech2 scanner like dealerships or well equipped service shops have.
