bought an 01 blazer with 200k miles knowing it needed intake gaskets as it was burning coolant drove home just fine (2 hour ride) after getting it in the shop and pulled apart someone replaced the gaskets already and seems to have broke a bolt for the intake is there anyway I can save the intake or is it time to get one from a scrap yard
Should be able to weld that up no problem, unless you don't know how to weld. Bring it into a welding shop and show it to them, should be pretty easy and "shouldn't" cost too much.
Around here, if you had to pay a professional to weld that, it would probably cost more than just getting a "new" one from a junkyard. It's not that it's a huge job to weld it, but it needs to be spotlessly clean, then it needs to be machined flat on the surface that goes against the head.
Probably not worth the effort unless you can do it yourself.
As already suggested, it is likely going to be cheaper in the long run to get a replacement LIM from the junkyard. Just be sure to check out the sealing surface on the water jacket ports at the back of the manifold as these like to corrode & pit which could cause you issues with leaks if it is too far gone. You are paying for a good replacement after all.
When you go to reinstall the lower intake, you might consider what forgot to do when I did my LIM gaskets which was to temporarily install threaded rods into some of the LIM bolt holes in the heads to help guide the LIM into place. This is what I wish I had remembered to do from what I learned from replacing the intake on my 1968 Mustang 289 intake manifold. Instead of all bolts, there are four studs that come in super handy for reinstalling the intake.
