Car had little to no power, changed both cat $600 both were shot. Changed plugs, wires cap, rotor, power pack, fuel filter, maf and map sensor, radiator (defective). Car ran great for a week like new and then died wouldn’t start. Called a friend who is a mech. At first he said might be spiders now he says after testing it's the fuel pump. Would a bad fuel pump cause erratic starting and rough idle when it did run. Also could a bad fuel pump effect the spider. One more item oil seems to be hot, when I check the stick a white mist emits from the dipstick tube. Oil has no gas smell and no water present either. What the hell is going? Any insight is appreciated.

I second that. Go get a fuel pressure tester and check your pressure. It if will not hold pressure when not running, it's probably your spider or your fuel pressure regulator (mine was the regulator). If it is poor pressure throughout, most likely cause is the fuel pump. Shame you don't have my intake plenum, I could peek inside and see the leak.

They checked the fuel pressure and there was none, so they replaced it for $465.00. Now the not so funny part they still can't get a reading cause there isn’t any juice going to the new pump. They have to drop the tank again because they didn't change the wiring configuration for the new pump. Hope I didn't waste the money on a pump (even though it looked like crap) When it may need a new spider. Spoke to someone that was there who told me the pump they put in was a Delphi and defective, so they had to drop the tank to redo besides. What a crock of BS. If it is the intake plenum anybody know the proper brand to get, That I’ll do myself. I’m about to lose my temper. Great Truck otherwise for the 136,000 mileage. Like the old saying “cheaper to keep her than to get rid of her” Plus I’ve grown attached to the old girl.
Thanks guys

The intake plenum is the metal part of the engine your throttle body connects to. Mine (1995) has a different looking intake plenum where you can easily access the inside for a peak at the spider.

Cars running great has power, runs almost like new. New Fuel pump. put Seafoam in what a difference. Now 156 miles later Im pulling a p0440 code what the F---. Any Ideas? can I make a smoke machine to see if there are any leaks and if not do you know what it cost to smoke the system?
Thanks

You made two pots about this same issue, please dont re post the same questions. but like everyone above was saying, and also saying in your other post. get a pressure test done on your fuel system, then if you get good results from that (60+ PSI) then you need to start checking the pressure in your cylinders.
