So when i got home today i shut off my car and took the key out. It was only then i noticed that my car was still running and my lights were still on. Thinking that was weird i let my foot off the break as i was about to investigate what was going on. When i let my foot off the break all power in the car dies. Thinking this was rather odd i put my foot on the break again and the power comes on. So i grabbed my brother to show him, hit the break and nothing happens. So i restart my car in attempt to recreate the event. This time when i shut off my car and remove the key, the car doesnt shut off. I let off the break, and nothing shuts off. So now i call dad to get his ideas on what could be wrong, im sitting in my car with the key on the ON position and i notice smoke coming out of the steering wheel. So i turn off the key and remove it and BAM the car shuts off. So with out starting the car i put it back into the ON position and smoke comes out again. Realizing that i have a problem now i decide to stop messing with it, when i leave the car (not running and no power inside) i notice my break lights are on full on (as if the break is being pressed) so i disconnect the battery (to avoid waking up to a fully engulfed car in the driveway) and seek help.
Now i could assume that the problem lies in the ignition switch due to the ignition system having the problems. But i do question why the other electronic issues are present if its just the ignition switch? Could this be the computer? Will replacing the ignition switch fix the problem? Is my car toast?
