Default 02 With strange sound coming from dash

I own a 2002 Blazer LS 4x4. and for the past few years there has been an annoying rattle, clunk or other words to describe this sound coming from behind the dash on the passenger side. It was tolerable at first, but now when I stop of a traffic light the sound starts. Any suggestions besides ripping the dash apart?

being more specific would be helpful.
You say "when you stop the sound starts" do you mean as you are coming to a stop you are already stopped?

Does it do this noise any other time?

Also, a rattle is quite a bit different than a clunk.

OK, sorry to be so vague.
When I come to a complete stop with the car in drive, it is a rattle (a rather loud one)
Also any imperfection in the road I also hear it. The only thing I can compare the sound to is a strut going bad. I know I will be taking the dash out, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and maybe I can get parts before I take the dash out.

Does it sound like a telegraph machine? Around the area of the radio?

Kinda, but it's a deeper sound. And it is closer to the passenger side dash speaker (at least thats where it sounds like it's coming from)

Sounds like its the notorious hood hinge issue.

duxx, I was going to suggest the exhaust pipe is hitting the frame or some suspension member and causing the sound. The idle speed must create a different harmonics in the exhaust system. This should be fairly easy to check on a lift. Have the engine idling and duplicate the conditions when you experience the noise. You should be able to touch the exhaust with a heavily gloved hand and stop the noise. Let us know if you found the problem and if it is the hood hinge or other issue.

It isn't the hood hinge. They are both solid, no noise coming from it at all. When I get a chance, I will throw it on a lift an check the exhaust, but I doubt that is the issue, but I do wanna check all avenues before I take apart the dash.

Sometimes it is hard to tell where the sound is coming from exactly. Let us know what you find out.

Hey!! Same issue. Just sounds like there is something moderately heavy bumping around every so often behind the dash.
Mine is a 96' model though...
