50psi??!!?? The pressure displayed on the sidewall of the tire is the maximum operating pressure, not to be confused with what you should be running for your vehicle. The tire pressure on the inside of the door is the recommended pressure for your vehicle. You can go upwards of 5psi over this pressure for normal on-road driving, but unless you are lugging around some serious weight, 50psi is a lot higher than recommended.

Now, which is it, 45 miles or 70 miles? It makes quite a bit of difference. That is why you cannot compare miles to a tank of fuel, or in this case, a half tank. It is a meaningless comparison. With the inherent inaccuracies of the fuel level sending unit, there is no way to know how much fuel has been burned without filling the tank up and recording the exact amount to fill (don't add that extra 60 cents!) and the actual mileage since last fillup. Calculate the actual MPG and use that as your comparison.

Your tires should be at about 30-35psi unless you have alot of weight on them. To get your mpg fill your tank up and set the trip meter and then next time you need to head to the pumps fill it back up and take the number of miles you drove divided by the ammount of gas it took to get your tank back up to full. So say you drove 270 miles and it takes 15 gallons back to full, 270/15=18mpg. Going by the gas gauge is a horrible way to check your mpg.

Ok, well sorry that I didnt repost last night, I looked over your guys' replies but I didnt have any time to put my oun. So Last night I was going back to fill up. And again, I put in 20 bucks. Which gave me 6.66 gallons. And on my odometer it said 80 miles.

So, I got 80 miles for the 20 bucks that I put in there last time. But the gas was more expensive last week. I think that it was 3.06 or something last week, and last night it was 2.99 per gallon.

Oh, and I also lowered the psi in my tires to 35 each. They were at 40 psi before, not 50, that was a typo.

so last week I put in 20 bucks, and got 80 miles. I think that comes out to 12.25 miles per gallon. I think that is still bad.
Is there anything that I could do to make me get better gas millage. I have been soooooo easy on the accelerator alrady, like there was an egg between my foot and the gas pedal.

What do you guys think?
Thanks
Chad

You have to fill the tank to the top and then fill it again after drivingand look at the gallons don't even look at the price.

Still depends on what you call a full tank. If it was 18 gallons to fill your tank thats only 16.6 mpg but if it was 15 gallons it was 20mpg.
