1996 Blazer fuse #5 keeps blowing
Good afternoon,
I'm posting this for my hubby. He has a 1996 Chevy S10 Blazer 4WD that keeps blowing the #5 fuse, the list on the fuse panel cover says ENG 1. When it blows, it quits running and won't restart. If he replaces the fuse, then it will start again, but the fuse will blow again. Any ideas on what the problem is?
Thanks!
Jonell

How long has the truck been doing this? And how long after the new fuse is installed does the blazer run and then stall again? Was any work previously done to it ?

RE: 1996 Blazer fuse #5 keeps blowing
This is the first time that it did it. He was coming home from work last Thursday and it quit running about a half mile from home. Checked the fuses, the #5 was blown, and it wouldn't start. Replaced the fuse and it started up but the fuse blew again and it died, and continues to do so every time that you replace it and then start it. He had surgery last Friday, so it has been sitting since then.
No other work done to it other than an oil change and new tires. Blazer was bought in April of this year.

so far it seems that the truck didnt want him to have surgery.. All joking aside i hope he ok? For the truck I`m wondering if a ground cable maybe shorting out somehow, i wish i lived closer to where half these trucks are having problems i`d come out and take a peek at it..If the truck is at least starting I`m counting out a starter problem, because once its started the starter is out of the circuit, I dont beleive an altenator would do that or a battery. how long does it run after the fuse is replaced ( 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes? )

LOL....I think that you might be right. He is recovering well, thank you.
He's thinking along the lines of a short as well. It starts, but as soon as it starts, the fuse blows and it shuts down again.

Does it only blow when the truck is running or will it eventually blow if you leave the key in the RUN position?

RE: 1996 Blazer fuse #5 keeps blowing
Ok, he has informed me that my information is incorrect. It blows as soon as the key turns to the "run" position, it does not start at all. I thought that he had said it started, my apologies!

Ok, that actually makes it a bit easier to diagnose. There are a LOT of components that use this fuse... [ol][*] EGR valve - located on the front of the motor between the alternator and the A/C compressor[*] EVAP Purge Solenoid - located on the engine between the coil/ICM and the distributor[*] EVAP Vent Solenoid - located under the truck either on the crossmember infront of the spare tire (4dr) or at the back of the fuel tank (2dr)[*] Powertrain Control Module - Near the passenger side fender[*] Camshaft Position Sensor - in the distributor under the rotor[*] Mass Air Flow sensor - in the intake pipe[*] HO2S LH Front (B1S1) - in the exhaust pipe just after the driver side exhaust manifold[*] HO2S RH Front (B2S1) - in the exhaust pipe just after the passenger side exhaust manifold[*] HO2S Pre-Converter (B1S2) - in the exhaust pipe directly ahead of the catalytic converter[*] HO2S Post-Converter (B1S3) - in the exhaust pipe directly behind the catalytic converter[/ol]Now, if you were to disconnect all of these items and still had the fuse blow, then the problem is in the wiring and will be a royal pain to find!
