Default 1996 chevy blazer 4.3 belt

I want to put a 1/2 or 1 inch belt smaller than the one they recommend(OE)is that possible without hurting anything else.Because it seems that my tensioner is at its end and the belt is still a little loose. For some odd reason its chirps and can not find out why have changed all the pulleys idle, new alt,new waterpump needed it anyway and belt tensioner also the belt is new too. All responses are welcome any ideas on what to do would be nice too thanks please keep the responses coming thanks again

I have the exact same problem with my 2000. I have black rubber dust all over my new alt. from the belt. I have a new belt tensioner to. It is just tight enough to keep the belt on the pulleys and thats about it.

There are two different length belts, one for with and one for without air conditioning. Plus, some manufacturers don't size their belts exactly correctly. I recommend the Goodyear Gatorback.

I do have a goodyear gator back belt and still have this problem was hoping maybe a size smaller than the OE would do the job without harming anything.

I have replaced all the same things you have. The gatorback seemed 2 fix the problem but occasionally when its cold it does it.how is the ac compressor? Mine is toast so I believe that the r134a is leaking on the belt and pulleys causing the squeak. Some manufactures lengths of belts are different than others you could see if any are smaller than the gatorback . I also know that they can measure belts so maybe one of the local parts stores would help you find the right one if they have access to the lengths. But I'm not sure if that would or wouldn't harm your accessories. to tight might cause premature bearing failure.have u replaced the belt tensioner? That could be part of this as well.

I would think that the shorter belt would cause bearing wear since you are pulling all the pulleys closer together by a very small amount. You should really changed the belt tensioner its easy to change and not that expensive. It sure beats having the belt pop off while going down the highway or buying a belt every few months.

Well the belt tensioner is new and i got that from the dealer so i know its not that .And my ac copmressor works just fine.I am thinking it has to be the belt because of how far out my tensioner is as far as putting tension on the belt. Thanks for the replies, keep them coming.

just keep in mind not all dealerships replace your parts (they say they do but dont )and charge you for them anyways. i would pull the belt tensioner off and compare it with another one from a parts store..Thats just my opinion

Any goods parts store should be able to find you a belts that's a couple inches shorter than a stock one.

well the belt tensioner I bought from the dealer and put it
