Start with a search of the forum. The most common cause is a problem with the front axle actuator. Either it is not getting vacuum (bad switch in the transfer case or a cut vacuum line), it has a cut in the diaphragm, the cable is seized up, or there is a problem in the collar/gears inside the front passenger axle tube.

Know anyone that carries that cable ? We got mine stuck on my lake lot and had to pull it sideways. As we pulled the part ot the axle where the cable goes in caught a rock and I guess stretched the cable. It also messed up that sensor and the little plate with the three bolts that holds the cable in the axle. I actually need those 3 parts. I have lifted my truck since that little accident. I need my 4wd working though. Thanx !
