I thought that was what is was called, but since I could not find it in any of my go-to auto part websites I thought maybe I was wrong. What is the catalog name for this thing or does anyone know where they can be got? I'll replace that and see what happens.

On this website, they call it a vacuum control switch but that's incorrect. The image, the part number and the price are right though. Most auto parts stores carry, or can get, Dorman parts.

Those parts look like the same part that people list as the "Transfer Case Engagement Switch." Is this correct even though the transfer case is back by the transmission?

 

They do look similar; the top one switches vacuum and the bottom one switches electricity.

This is the "Transfer Case Engagement Switch"


It's located on the transfer case and has 3 vacuum lines attached to it. It sends vacuum to the front axle actuator under the battery tray.

This is the "Front Axle Engagement Switch" and it's located on the right front axle tube. It's basically a push-button, on/off switch with two wires connected to it:



EDIT:
The top one tells the axle to engage, the bottom one tells the VCM if it actually engaged.

 

Thank you VERY much for your help! I just wanted to make sure that I had things straight. I am going to put a new switch in tomorrow and will post what happens.

 

To do my part, I took some photos of the Switch installed in the hope that it helps someone else solve a problem:



This is the 2-Pin connector that plugs into the Front Axle Engagement Switch



The red arrow shows the Front Axle Engagement Switch. The wire in the foreground is not connected to anything, it would be plugged into the Switch.

 

AWESOME! A new Front Axle Engagement Switch for $13.00 appears to have fixed the problem with the 4wd fuse constantly blowing as well as the problem of the temp, fuel, & outside temp gauges and gear selector light going out.
