Default 1999 Blazer 1-2 Shift

After getting off the expressway today, stopping at the light, then taking off, I noticed something different in the shift from 1 -2. It takes a while to shift from 1-2, it finally makes the shift at 25mph. Shifts are fine after that.

Any suggestions?

Blazer has 28,000+ actual miles.

If there are DTC's in memory, it might help with diagnosis. If there are no DTC's, it could be the 1-2 shift solenoid sticking, or the spool valve sticking in the transmission valve body. There's a GM Technical Service Bulletin addressing the sticky spool valve on certain 4L60E transmissions, check with a dealer to see if yours is involved.

The P0410 came back but we cleared it again till I get it replaced. I will check out the bulletin. Thanks

Could it be the transmission speed control sensor? I had it at AutoZone and they said it may be a possibility.

P0410 is a problem with secondary air system, nothing to do with transmission shifting. If the VSS, (vehicle speed sensor) has a problem, you would notice other problems related to: speedo inacuracy or erratic, ABS trouble, cruise control, and all shift points would be affected. Very doubtful it's the VSS.

Will I damage anything by driving it?

High harsh shifts put undue stress on driveline components. Might want to have a trustworthy, competent trans shop take a look at it.

Might also want to check your throttle position sensor, it helps control the transmission shifts. Good Luck

Took the Blazer to Mr.Transmission, they said its on its way out. There is a burnt smell, color is still good. I can tell a big difference between Sunday and today when shifting. Mr.Transmission wants $1800-$2500, a friend of mine will do it for $1200 with a 12 month warranty.
