yes that did the trick pulled vacume line from actuator and no more growl from front end.so my question to you now is why was it engaging?it just all the sudden started.maybe bad switch?thank you very much.could have saved money on wheel bearings.cv boot had a tear so would have done it sometime and upper and lower ball joints needed replaced anyway.thanks again.

Does the switch on the dash have 3 buttons or 4?
On the firewall, slightly to the passenger side of center, is there a switch that looks like this:

Should have two vacuum lines and one electrical connector with two wires in it.
On the firewall, slightly to the passenger side of center, is there a switch that looks like this:

The switch on the transfer case is the problem. GM has a new, revised one, part # 89059420 and cost is ~$40. Most auto parts stores have them in the Dorman brand for around $20, but some of our members have had trouble with them... your choice
You will need a 7/8" deep socket, and about 15 minutes time to change it. The connector is rubber with 3 vacuum lines. It is keyed so it will only go on one way, but be careful as it is possible to mess it up
