Question 2 problems - Fuel and Idle

Hello Everyone,

I have a 2001 4dr 4wd Blazer and it has around 185k on the OD. I have been having a ton of problems with it and now that I fixed most of them, there are 2 that arose and drive me nuts!

I have been having fuel issues with this thing since day one. 3 years ago I had to replace the fuel pump because it completely quit to the point where you couldnt hear it prime. Now last week I just had to replace the fuel pump again. The strange thing is, for the past year I have been having trouble starting it after I fill up the tank at the gas station. It will turn over and stall immediately or just crank and backfire, usually the 2nd turn over it will eventually start. Does anyone know what the problem could be here? I did replace the fuel filter along with the pump.

It has also been idling pretty rough since the fuel pump was replaced. It starts up beautifully unless I am filling up at the gas station. The rough idle tends to come and go at times. It has never been tuned up except for the cap and rotor but I want to make sure this is the problem because I am planning on selling it soon.

If anyone has input, it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Robert

You may be sucking fuel into the EVAP system causing your hard starts. The EVAP canister is located behind the driver side tire and is a rectangular box. Disconnect and remove it. If fuel spills out, replace it as a saturated EVAP canister is pretty much useless.

If fuel system problems persist, the next step would be a complete pressure test including a leak down test.

Thanks for your reply swart. Is the Canister Purge Solenoid the same part? If this is so, autozone has it for under 40 dollars, I will purchase one and put it on. Any tips to removing this thing?

Thanks

Robert
