2000 blazer rear brake help
 

2000 Blazer 4WD

I have the rear calipers removed, but I can't get the rotor off...Shouldn't it just slide off? Is there something to do with the parking brakes holding it on? How do I remove it? Please help.

There is an internal parking brake. Mostlikely, the inner drum has rusted behind the parking brake shoes. It's going to be fun to get them off... I know mine were a royal pain when I replaced the rear brakes on my old Bravada.

Yes there are inner parking brakes. The vest way to get them off is to tap the drum witha hammer while you pull the drum out. Each tap will release the brakes enough to let the drum slide some. No doubt you will have to work at least two sides of the drum, this can take some time. Bring a beer.

Are you sure the drum is free fromt eh hub face? Does it move around and the studs don't? If the drum and studs turn at the same time and or you know its till stuck tot eh axle you need a hammer. I prefer a ballpeen hammer and use the peen end. Pound between the lug studs. If your aim isn't perfect put your lug nuts on the studs to protec the threads. You want to pound betweent he studs on the drum. Hit it hard, your not going ot break it, what you are trying to break is the rust bond the drum has with the hub face. You'll know when its free, the tone of the hits wil change from solid to tingy and thte drum will move around. Then use the back and forth method I outlined above.

I highly recommend you use anti-sieze on the hub face, drum face (where wheel makes contact), and each lug stud.

Thanks for the suggestions. I got them free. Basically it was exactly what all of you suggested, it was rusted to the centre hub. A little Release All and some hammering with the aid of some beer. Got it loose. I could definatly hear the change in tone from a ping to a solid thunk when if finally boke loose.
