Unhappy 2000 Blazer won't fire up

Hi There

Hoping for a little help/insight

I have a 2000 4x4 Blazer with the 4.3lt vortec V6

I dropped my son at school and was about to leave the schoool when it just stopped, I tried winding it over but it just wouldn't fire so got it towed home.

I have checked for spark and fuel and both are present but I do not have a fuel pressure reading

I suspect it may be a faulty crank angel sensor but do not have access to a scan tool to see if any codes are present.

I have checked all connections under the bonnet and can not see anything out of place.

I have tried pouring a small amount of fuel down the throttle body but it still wont fire????

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Andrew

You aren't giving us a lot of info here... Is the CEL (check engine light) on? If so, you really should get the codes read since the truck is trying to tell you what is wrong.

A fuel pressure test does not only test for proper pressure, but also the possibility for a fuel leak. If there were a leak internal to the intake, pouring more fuel down the throttle body would not make it start.

Hey There

the CEL light is not on I have got the local holden dealer mechanic coming up tomorrow but they may not have the correct programme for the scan tool as the Aussie GM stuff is different.

There aren't a lot of these types of trucks around here so finding a mechanc that knows what he/she is looking for is pretty hard.

Without pulling the inlet manifold apart I couldn't say if there is a leak inside until pressure test is done.

Hey All

Update on my blazer.......... apparently the problem is a failing coil after several tests it appears the coil has an intermittent faut which caused it to stall out then not fire up so $75 for a new coil and a new set of plugs $23ea :-( I will have my blazer back on monday. They also did a fuel pressure test which showed the pump was reaching up to 80psi on a blanked off fuel line as they did not have a test gauge that screwed onto the fitting on the fuel line.
So hopefully all will be well and will be cruising again shortly

Crap! You should have bought them online and installed them yourself! You could have gotten a complete set of AC Delco double platinum plugs for $40. I just bought a set (6) of AC Delco Iridium plugs for $42.

Hopefully those cheap plugs don't come back to bite you. Were they even AC Delco plugs?

Talking Update on Blazer

Hey All

Got blazer back today this was the official problem.............a badly corroded coil lead was the fault the whole time. There was spark at the plugs and fuel pressure at the manifold.

So a new coil lead $75 grrrrr and new plugs $23+GST ea and truck is home again and I am really annoyed that it was so dam simple and I couldn't trace it myself so maybe this will be of help to someone else.

They replaced the coil lead it was corroded inside the end cap on the distributor end of the lead, plugs were replaced cause they were stuffed and may have been failing under load.

Truck is running great again now
