Perhaps my brain is on hold, but what is a 'chmsl'?

Center high mounted stop lamp. Be darned if I could find instructions yet. Best I can figure remove the rear trim and drop the roof liner.

Remove roof rear upper garnish molding (use a flat trim tool and pull down on it), disconnect electrical connector. Using a heat gun apply heat to the tape seal until it becomes soft and pliable. With a flat bladed tool cut the tape that seals the spoiler to the liftgate window, this cut will be made along the top, left, and right edges. From the top edge pull the spoiler back to release it from the liftgate window clips. The locating clips on the spoiler may break, these are for assembly locating only. The spoiler will still snap into place during assembly. Place the spoiler on the roof of the vehicle. Remove the liftgate window from the vehicle. Remove all traces of adhesive from the window using an adhesive cleaner, then wipe clean with isopropyl alcohol.
Reassembly:
Don't remove the protective strip from the 2 sided adhesive yet.
Place the spoiler on the roof of the truck, plug in the electrical harness and make sure it works. Install the roof rear garnish molding. Install the liftgate window. Snap the spoiler into place and locate in the center of the liftgate. remove the protective strip from the 2-side adhesive. Apply firm and even pressure to seat the spoiler.
That's the GM way.... You remove the liftgate window by opening it, removing the retaining clips and pulling the pins. (don't forget the defogger connections) Reverse that to reinstall it. I don't know why the window needs to come off to remove adhesive but I can't visualize all this. Anyhow, you replace the spoiler assembly to replace the CHMSL.

All right Ronjon the Man,
sounds like we may have a winner here, i will attempt tommarow.
is there a pic of the upper molding?
thanks a lot for the info, so it sounds like double sided foam trim
tape is holding most of this to the glass? And all this just for a loose wire

Thanks again, i will keep this open and get some pics of the removal
for others to use.

I have illustrations, I just retyped the written instructions. That plastic (rear garnish) across the top on the inside has 6 clips and just pops down. That'll expose the connector. I shortened a few things, warnings about careful with the cut so you don't knick the window frame and paint and corrosion. A putty knife/scraper will do you well for that. From what I see it's two sided tape and clips inside the spoiler (no illustration), if you break the clips the new spoiler must have new clips? Work along the outside edge, might be if you try to shove in too far maybe there's clips glued to the window? (that snap into the spoiler) Also if you remove the rear window buy new retaining clips for the pins. Those clips never work on door hinge pins if you try to reuse 'em (bigger, same principle)
