2000 jimmy,starter engages while running
the starter engages while its running, ungodly load noise.
does it spurrratically ,STOPS engaging when i pull out the starter relay. also when i go to start,it just starts without turning key all the way. thank you for any help. i will try relay from wife's gmc when she gets home!!~ tried other relay ,not the problem. could it be the ignition switch |
Bump to the top
Any solution ?
My 2000 has started doing something similar. Turn off the key and the starter keeps cranking maybe 1 out of 4 times. Thanks !! |
"it just starts without turning key all the way.
thank you for any help." and "Turn off the key and the starter keeps cranking maybe 1 out of 4 times." My guess, and it only a guess, is the ignition switch has gone bad in both cases. |
starter engages bye itself

I was fast enough to catch my starter in the crank-mode, and pulled the starter relay.
I had already pulled the fuse cover and wasn't fast enough on previous tries. When I pulled the starter relay, the starter was still spinning for several more seconds. I'm suspecting a sticky starter solenoid and will probably need to replace the starter. I also have a K5 and that starter replace is a 15 minute job... plenty of room. Not so with this 2000 4x4 Blazer. Why do they put the bolts where the sun doesn't shine ? |
I hear you. I think they ought to make a GM engineer tear down and replace each device he helps design. If they design a starter, he has to pull it and replace it in his driveway with jack stands and not using a lift. Only then can he 'sign off' on his creations.
