2000 jimmy wont start help please help
hi I have a 2000 jimmy with just under 160,000 miles on it. It started a few mounths ago in sted of firing right up it would fire then die then fire right back up and run great. I also thought my gas millage was worse to but I didn't check into it much just kept driving it. about a week ago I noticed it would roll over more before it fired and just seem like it didn't want to start, but it allways started and I just thought it was because of the cold weather ,but now it wont start at all it just roll and rolls then spits and sputters tried starting fluid. it fired sputterd then died. could this be an EGR please help and thank you very much

Classic symptoms of a failing fuel pump. You'll need to check fuel pressure and leakdown at the service port next to the distributor. Most auto parts stores rent, loan, and sell the testers. Let us know when you have one available and we can "walk" you through it. Easy and quick, takes about 15 minutes.
The check engine light is on because you unplugged the EGR valve. EGR will not cause a no-start condition.

a quick update I got it fired and made the 120 mile trip to work and back it ran great but it seems low on power it never cut out or even missed but when I went to pass someone it had trouble getting passed 3000 rpm. It revs fine when I got stopped but I tryed a fast start and same thing made it to3500 but kinda stuggled. Thank you

Check the fuel filter for restriction, fuel pressure, and leakdown. If that checks OK, we can check the converter for a restriction.

hi I just picked up a fuel pressure test kit can someone pl;ease walk me through how to do this. all so is there any way a plugged cat could cause some of this. I was driving today and it stated to studder like it was out of cause but its full. thank you

For the clogged cat, is your engine temp higher then normal?
I've had a clogged cat on my '91 305 tbi caprice once. idle was good but no power at all but it fired up like normal so i don't think tht's your problem.
fuel pump / filter is more likely.

On your 2000, in the underhood fuse panel there is a vacant terminal next to the fuel pump relay. The pump prime circuit goes directly to the fuel pump.
Connect the fuel pressure tester to the service port by the distributor. Connect a fused jumper wire from battery positive to the pump prime terminal. When the fuel pressure stabilizes on the tester, write it down. Disconnect the jumper wire. Wait 10 minutes, and write down the pressure reading. Post the readings.
