2000 ZR2 has wire arcs and misfires
Hi all,
I have a 2000 Blazer ZR2 that I purchased new in 00. Its been a very good truck other than the standard stuff that goes wrong with them, wheel bearings, fuel pumps, etc...
Anyway, The truck has 145,000 miles on it. I did the first tune up at 100,000 with plugs, wires, cap, rotor a year or so ago. Recently the truck has started to misfire and I did notice somearcing from the coil wireand plug wires. When I did the tune up I purchased AC Delco cap, rotor and plugs but the wires were some cheapo's from NAPA. Should they go bad in only 1 year and 45,000 miles? I was told recently that these trucks are very picky about non Ac Delco tune up parts. How true is this?
Im guessing I just go bite the bullet and buy the $100 Ac Delco wires and it will probably fix the problem?
At first when I did the tune up I had an aftermarket coppercap on it for a day or so before I got the Ac Delco cap and it misfired with that on also.
Oh BTW, It does throw a cylinder misfire code sometimes but not always. Its worse when humid or raining out.
Appreciate any input.
Thanks
Todd

It's probably the wires. Get some Delco wires and make sure you use dieletric grease on all of the connections when you're installing them.
Ebay has them for much cheaper than $100. I got a set for a 5.7L (two extra wires) for like $40, brand new.

Yeah, definitely stick with AC/Delco for the plugs and distributor parts. I was going to say I don't think there's a need to spend the big bucks for the AC wires, but $40...? Oh, heck yeah! You wouldn't get good quality at the auto parts store for less than that, anyway.
