Default 2000 zr2 no headlights no start??

I have a 2000 S10 blazer zr2. I was driving tonight, with headlights on. I clicked the highbeam headlights on, and the headlights went off, and the engine died. I have no power to the starter, and no headlights. If anyone could help me as to where to start to look to find this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I'd check the fuses and battery cables first.

fuses check good. and the cables are tight. I just had to replace the cap and rotor (screws came out of the rotor button, and it was just flopping around). I checked everything out at the garage. Then when it quit running, I checked the cables, and fuses in driveway at my house...Im not sure what Im looking for now. It has me puzzled.

sorry if my response was confusing. I just read it, and it kinda confused me. I have power to the cluster, radio, and everything except the headlights, and starter.

Swartlkk has an other thread how to replace it too if the diagnosis leads to a bad ignition switch
