Any resolution on this problem yet?

Did you get your truck fixed? Had the same problems with my 2001 blazer. Replaced the crank shaft sensor and it ran worse. Found out I needed a shim for the sensor. Truck runa alot better. Now throwing p0302. Only kicks in at 70mph +. Still on original plug wires and coil. Have had too much snow here to work on the truck. I can live with it for now. If you need it, I can get you the GM part number for the shim.

WOW, If that really was a chevy mechanic Im very dissappointed. You can check a timing chain for slop without tearing down the motor. Did he actually REMOVE the cam to do all the checking that was done? Why in the world would the entire valve train be dissassemble?
I do agree it sounds like it may be 180 out. I love the remark about having an old-timer time it! Seems like most of the younger techs cant troubleshoot anything without his lap-top. I had a jeep wrangler that had an intermittent miss. You could see the gear shift jump while sitting there idling. The chrysler tech (Almost old enough to shave) stood there and told me "Sir...It cant be missing...See? The computer says it isnt!"
Good Luck!! Have a great day!

If you put #1 at TDC and then line the rotor up with the #1 terminal on the cap, the PCM may not like it. You may get it right, but your chances of being 1 tooth off are very high. That's why I mentioned the EDI engine timing thread.
My vote goes to timing. When you pull the distributor, check the gear on the bottom as previously mentioned.

what really fixed it or did you trade it?

Double check your firing order and plug wires. I had an old Ford tractor which ran like crap when 2 plug wires were crossed. ie. check the easy stuff first.

I'm with swartlkk. But, if the timing marks and the gears are all right on, I'd consider checking for a fouled/bad spark plug. Man I feel your frustration, Year ago I had a volkswagen GTI and I had put brand new plugs in so, I checked everything but that. About a year and a half, I looked at the old engine sitting next to it all that time and pulled the old plugs of and put them on the GTI. It started! Could one injector not be working?
I need you to tell me one thing and it's related to one question I posted last week and got no answer. You mentioned that you took off the cam for inspection. I have the engine on my 99 blazer 4x4. It started but, I need to change the cam. I'd like to know how far forward the cam needs to go forward for removal. Do I have to remove the A/C radiator and grill along with the cooling system radiator (I know this has to be removed) ? I know all the rest. One more thing, check and make sure the ground wires and straps are on clean and tight. Poor ground can cause you to spend money and be very poor. Keep your money, just let us know how it works out and we'll all benefit.
