check your CAT converter i.e. I have been getting TERRIBLE mileage and while talking to a mech. today he looked at my CAT he said it was after market and because of the cost of a new one it looked too small, so he said over time it has pry plugged up. He siad before I spend the money to go have my hydro carbons checked and that would give me a better idea if I was burning too much or not enough, etc...hope this helps.

Your EVAP solenoid MIGHT be stuck in the 'PURGE' mode. A scan will show the purge cycle mode...

That means vacuum which normally draws vapor from the cannister (once in a while), is stuck open, and MIGHT be drawing all the way from the gas tank - not vapor, but fuel.

Find the line coming INTO the cannister, and pull it. See if it has fuel in it, or a STRONG fuel smell.

Why the dealer. Find a good independent garage. As a rule cheaper & better work. That is my experience. I'm an old tied mechanic that can't do a lot of this stuff anymore my body doesn't work very well twisting & turning as it did in my younger days. I have a shop that does my work & the owner knows were I'm coming from & fixes only the stuff that is needed. If I have a noise or something he will listen to it & tell me what it is & if I need to do something or just live with it.

I would have to agree that it is the spider assembly, And It is leaking gas into the manifold and causing the POOR Fuel Economy, Smell of Gasoline and the Poor idle with the A/C on. Hope this Helps And Give us an Update as to the Fix or Repair.
Good Luck T.J

Try getting a new gas cap, that might help if its not a tight seal.

That smell is your evap charcoal canister. Replace it and the smell will go away, and you gas millage will come back.

I would agree with the canister. Hence the EVAP code.
