Question 4 wheel drive question

I have a 96 blazer ls, i have a question about the 4 wheel drive.I have never had a push button 4x4, so im not sure how to tell if the blazer is in 4 wheel drive.When i push the 4x hi button both hi and low buttons light up and stay on.I dont hear any noise from the front end, i do hear a click when i push the button.So how do i tell if this thing is in 4 wheel drive?It snowed here pretty good in colorado springs the other day and i was out in it and used the 4 wheel drive (at least i pushed the 4 hi button).Couldnt tell if it was working or not.Can anyone help?

you can do the turning trick, or the lift and look.

turning trick: put vehicle into 4wd in an area where you can bang out some big circles (parking lot)
drop her in 4hi and give it a little gas while turning like you want to park in a compact slot...
if it feels like its shuddering because the fronts are pulling you in their direction and the rears are pushing you straight ahead... its in 4wd.

otherwise drop in on a lift, put her in gear while in 4wd and gently let your foot off the break while a buddy checks if your wheels are spinning...
this can also bedone on 4 jack stands but is stupid dangerous....

from what it sounds like though, with both buttons lighting up, you have a problem. there is generally a couple of blinks, then a light clunk, and the selected option stays lit... you should search up some 4wd issues around here there is a ton of info, and toruble shooting it isn't too bad...

I dont think the 4 wheel drive is working, i tried it in low and hi on some snow and ice and the front tires never spun.So im assuming that it doesnt work,also was wondering if the lights on the 4 wheel buttons are supposed to be yellow or green.I read a thread and might have misunderstood but took it like they went green when in 4 wheel drive?This is my first push button 4 wheel drive, have always had the manual hubs and had to shift into 4 wheel drive.I will try doing some of the things i have read in other threads to see if any of that works.I get the lights on the 4 wheel drive buttons and they stay on and i hear the clicking in the dash but no 4 wheel drive at the wheels,has anyone had this same problem?

yellow = good

no color = bad

red = neutral

Problem is common... look into encoder motor, look into tccm and cleaning, look into accuator, and follow up with the vac hoses at the front diff.
