Default 4WD HELP

Okay so I have a 1996 Chevy S10 Blazer Lt. Its four door with 4WD. So we have our first snow today and me and a few friends decide to take a trip out in our vehicles. We were traiing a little bit so i had 4 high on and it worked great. So later on in the day I go to put in in 4 high and it wont engage. There is a really bad grinding/popping noise coming from the front drivers side wheel. This is really bothering considering that I can't leave my driveway because we have so much snow and i want to go play in it but the ol' blazer doesn't want to cooperate. Does anybody have a clue on what might of happened or what might fix this problem?

Thanks alot-

It's possible that the front axle is not engaging due to a vacuum leak. There is a vacuum actuator mounted under your battery, when switched to 4X4 that vacuum diaphram pulls a cable attatched to your front axle housing to engage the axles to the front diff.
