Default 4wd issues

Ok I have read everywhere I'm supposed to before posting. My problem is this I just purchased a 2000 jimmy with the four button 4wd when I try yo engage it the switch just kreps lighting up for 4 lo and hi it will go straight to auto 4wheel. But it doesn't really engage I have checked vac lines nd actuator under battery u can see it move when the buttons are pressed. I really need four wherl drive for the winter for the safety of my familly. I would really like to get this fixed asap. Can some one please point me in the right direction I am not mechanically inclined but I have never had a vehicle with the push buttd so I'm at a loss at this point. Thanks for reading hopefully soneone out there with knowledge of this set up can help me.

if the service 4wd light comes on that means codes are being stored into the 4x4 mod

get the codes pulled with an advance scan tool and you should be able to find your problem

advance can only scan engine codes

you need to bring it somewhere that has an advanced scan tool
Like a dealer or a mechanic
