4wd question
I am not sure if I should post here but when I clicked on the engine link it to me to a Kia website - not where I wanted to be.
I'm in the Uk and have a Chevy Blazer 2000, 4.5 Auto and I have a problem with the 4 x 4 selection. When I start the car it automatically sets to 4 x 4 as opposed to the 2 high it should normally run in. I have taken it to the garage and they are not sure if it it the switch on the dash or the sensor on the gear box (or something else entirely) they figured out if I pressed the auto button, then the 2 high, then reversed it slightly it would 'lock' the 2 high in gear which seems to work but not 100% of the time. As I am a pensioner (I know driving a big 4 x 4 but I love it) paying £77 + 17.5% sales tax is a lot of money when it might not be that part. There is no Chevy dealer now where I live and so no specialist garage I can take it to also mine id the only one in this area of South Wales so garages have little experience of working on cars like mine. Can anyone help? and does anyone know where I can get parts at a more reasonable price? thank you for any help advice you can offer - Chris

*Moved to the 2nd Gen Tech* - Please do not post off topic requests in other peoples thread. It is not polite.
You can test the switch with an multimeter set to the ohm scale. You can disconnect all of the electrical connections at the TCCM, switch, and encoder motor on the transfer case to check for corrosion. Clean them with a small brass brush with some electrical contact cleaner, blow them off so they are dry, and lubricate them with dielectric grease before putting them back together. Each of these tasks is covered in other threads which you should be able to locate with a search or two so I won't cover the details here.
Beyond that, you will need to find someone with a Tech 2 or equivalent full feature scan tool capable of accessing the TCCM to diagnose further.
