Hello, I have a 2001 4door 4x4.. The problem is the 4x4 buttons on the dash are lighten up. Everyone of them, The 4wd auto, 4lo, 4high, nuetral, and the 2wd. I just bought this and am sucking up gas, im scared that it is stuck in 4wd. When I push any of the buttons it does nothing, I do not here it try and engage, and im not for certain if im in 2wd or 4wd.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Sounds like the switch is bad. Only one should be lighted at any time. While switching between 2WD and 4WD it will usually blink until engaged. To check if it is in 4WD you can remove the vacuum line from the vacuum solenoid on the firewall that goes down to the 4WD actuator under the battery. If it is under vacuum you will hear the actuator disengage. If you do not know what this is it is a black solenoid switch mounted to the firewall mid point about the size of a film canister. It has a vacuum line in and out. The out one goes past the distributor and down to the actuator. A tell tale sign of 4wd engaged is difficultly making tight turns from a stop, such as in parking lots. If you need a new switch go to rockauto. I think they have one for $15-20 or so depending on what switch you need AWD or not. Post back if you need more help.

This link may have some info for you:

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. If you can hear clicking noises from the TC control module (located behind passenger side kick plate in front of door hinges) when you push the buttons, then the switch is probably good. My lights were acting like yours and my problem turned out to be a bad TC motor/encoder. Feedback from the encoder was confusing the TC module. The module is what turns the lights on.

There is a tremendous amount of info in the DIY section on 4x4 issues. These take a little time to read through and understand, but are very good at diagnosing the problem step-by-step. The alternative is to guess and throw money at the problem...I am cheap and like to read stuff, so it works pretty good for me.
