You can see it in this image, just above and inboard of the encoder motor. 2 door you need to reach over the crossmenber from the rear. 4 door you can get right at it. IIRC it takes a 15/16" thin wall deep socket, 3/8" drive, and a swivel head ratchet. Once you break it loose, you can unscrew it with your fingers.

Decided how my truck would do on the trails/ in the mud with street tires and in 2wd today, surprisingly well. Will definitely be picking the part up in the morning though. Thanks again for all the help. I expected the part to be much more expensive than it is!

 

I would recommend the OEM part #89059420. The Dorman seals lasted less than a year on the switch I used in my Blazer.

 

I've been installing them for years and never had a problem. If one does happen to fail, it's got a lifetime warranty. The 90 day GM warranty, and twice the price to buy it, makes it a no brainer.

 

Okay so now I have found that I have another problem with my truck, everything that I have read says the 99 ls 4x4 has an 18 gallon tank, but I can run my truck until the low fuel light comes on and top it off with 12 gallons. Could this be a faulty fuel level sensor, I'd really like the know my truck is actually getting better than the 10-12 mpg that it seems to be getting now.

 

Best to start a new thread addressing this issue. Could be a faulty fuel level sending unit, could be the float arm is out of adjustment, could be a damaged or deformed tank, (dented etc). None of these possibilities will cause poor fuel mileage though.

 

I looked into another thread, apparently gm designed it this way, the fuel guage reads empty when you still have 4-6 gallons of gas left in the tank.

 

If everything is working as designed, when the low fuel light comes on, there is approximately 1 gallon of usable fuel in the tank.
