95 blazer 4.3 hard starting and strong fuel smell?
hello my 95 is starting to act up a little some times it will start fine and other times it will crank and crank and then start with a strong "old gas" smell...best way I can explain it... I have smelled it before if it sits and idles for a little I get the same smell.... I'm thinking plugs but today I smelled coolant when I started it. I did just replace the heater core lines but that should have been gone my now I would have thought. I bought this truck used and the guy before replaced the motor and did not put the fan shroud back in so its missing and it has been getting a little hot sitting in traffic any ideas anyone?
Mine smelled like fuel at start up, at idle, and after shutting her off. Check your Evaporative Emission Canister. It should be under the driver's side rear fender.
**Edit, damn your a 95. EEC doesn't apply to you.**

Well for you I hope this is not your problem but I had the same issue and I just found out that my "spider" is bad (the fuel injection system), and its gonna cost me 400$ to fix. That all sounds like the problems I was having.
I, too, would suspect the spider assembly, but a fuel pressure test (especially the leak-down portion) would tell more. You can use the 'search' function to find the instructions.
As for the coolant smell, you may have a partially plugged heater core. Do a thorough flush of it.

I would more suspect either a failed FPR or a leaking nut kit than an issue with the spider assembly as a whole. I am not saying that the spider assembly is not the issue, just that it rarely is the entire unit.
You sure will fix a fuel leak with a new spider assembly and new "nut kit", but you may be spending more money than you have to.

I got the 400$ for the new spider to get put in my truck, I feel like I should ask them to go over it again just to make sure thats it cause thats alot of money. Do my symptoms match it being a bad spider? Hard to start, very rough idle, very strong gas smell, drop of oil pressure when coming to a stop (when the bad idle starts)
