so...you just tightened the rocker arm back to spec and the rough idle went away?
doesn't this mean the cam lobe is worn? just curious...

No, This means that the rocker arm or stud could have stretched. The stud that holds the rocker arm on could have pulled out of the head. Some studs are pressed in and some are screwed in.
The nut could have just loosened up a little bit.

cool.. guess i might try pulling the valve covers this weekend and taking a look at mine.

I was doing a Cylinder leak down test and detected an exhaust valve leak, figured I had to get the head replaced because a seal was bad. When we put it back together and tighten the rocker arms back down then started it the misfire was gone so something was out of adjustment

thanks for the info. keep us updated if the rough idle returns. i might just take off my valve cover this weekend and see if I have the same problem. If not...I think I might just go ahead and break down the engine. its getting annoying. I'm tired of replacing parts and no positive results. I thought it was a fuel or spark issue with the one cylinder(#6 plug was getting fuel fouled). I replaced regulator, spark plug wires, cap, rotor, and then the CPI spider with no long term results. Problem just keep coming back. I've found a reman engine locally for $1000 and plan on just going that route if this doesn't work.
Also, anyone who knows please answer, if what gscrippler did works on my truck, would it make since to replace the cam and lifters in a motor that has 160,000+ miles on it ?
