96 4.3 blazer distributor cap problem
Some one at some point (probably when the swapped the engine into the rig) busted the hole that one of my screws for tightening down the distributor cap (bumped it while trouble shooting a miss think i found it lol) goes into anyone have any ideas of the best way to go about fixing this?
Replace distributor or pull it and try to get broking bolt out. Zip tieing it may make it out of alignment and is not a quality fix it may get you back home but dont drive it around like that without a towing company number on your cell phone.
There are ridges that hold the cap lined up. Plus he stated there was one bolt still in place. I openly admit it is a hillbilly fix, but it is a cheap one. If funds are very limited and you have to drive to work the next morning when you CANT do it the correct way, sometimes you gotta do what you just gotta do. I ran a car that way for 50,000 when i was in college.
I actually used the zip tie fix on an older Probe Gt I had a few yrs back after stripping the hole out, worked fine for yrs.. Never had troubles with it being that way either....I wasnt going to put another dime in that car at that point.
Well, the new distributors have metal inserts in them which make them a little bit better in terms of resisting getting stripped out. I would recommend fixing it correctly.
Zip ties may work, but that just seems like one of those things that when your engine catastrophically fails because it's whole operation was based off of a zip tie you kind of look back and think that the $80 for a distributor didn't look so bad after all.
