Default 96 4.3 loss of power, runs hotter now

96 4.3 .. 4x4 has an autmatic with od .. 180 k just rebuilt with 10k on it. i live on a highway with a pretty good uphill grade. engine ran around 195 temp even in the summer. just recently would not pull hill in 3rd nevermind od. now dropping to 2nd. like a loss of power. now my temps are going up to 110-120 and over if i'm not careful..

Any chance your distributer came loose, allowing the time to slip?

i didn't know that the timing was adjustable. if it is, can you tell me how? or how many degrees it needs to be set at? i know some early 90 fords you needed to pull a link out of a under the hood, adjust timing then reinsert to reset the chip.

i don't even remember it having a slotted adjustment on the gm distributor.

thanks
