Default '96 Blazer- Brake light on

Bought a '96 S10 Blazer in '98. Been a great vehicle. Looks great and runs great. 3 years ago the yellow "ABS" light came on and stayed on. Mechanic said it was a ground problem, and not to worry. I didn't. Jump forward to this week. A young fellow I know who works for a local GM dealer replaced my heater core while I was shooting at the National Matches last week. Picked the Blazer up yesterday. The yellow "ABS" light is no longer on, but the red "Brake" light is! Brakes seem to be fine. When I start the vehicle the light will briefly blink about 5 seconds after turning the key, but stays on. Thought I'd ask around here first before spending any money. The Blazer is mint, but it's to the point where I will not put to much more money in it. I use it mainly around town to keep miles off my '04 F250 Stroker. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I hate to scrap it, but am beyond spending much more on repairs. Got my money out of this honey a long time ago.

Try using the search feature.. there are some old threads on the brake light.

See if hitting the parking brake and releasing it causes the light to flicker. If it doesn't get slightly brighter when you release the brake, it's the switch on the parking brake.

There's a switch in the abs module that senses low brake fluid. Check your brake fluid reservoir. Bleeding your brake system may fix this, too. Your buddy that did the heater core should have read the abs codes since the light was on...

My light was lit up when I bought my blazer and it was a leaking wheel cylinder (rear brakes). Light went out after I bled my brake lines.
