Default 96 Blazer still sputters. Help please!

I recently bought the blazer and the guy we bought it from said we only had to change the distributor cap. Done. Since then, we've changed the exhaust, muffler, catalytic convertor, and fuel filter. I'm completely clueless as to what to change next. People have recommended the air filter intake sensor, but I'm getting sick of putting money into it and seeing no results.

It sputters while accelerating and on cold days, but runs smooth once it's been going for a while. I've noticed while having the cruise on, it seems to slow itself down at times before speeding back up to speed while on a flat road. After stopping and then going again, it bogs to the point I have to let off the accelerator a second and repress it to get it to go.

Any suggestions?

If you hold the gas say at 2000 rpms does it stay there or surge down than back up?

It stays at about 2500 rpms but it's like it refuses to shift or something, just keeps bogging down. Even shifting from 1 to 2 to D doesn't help with sluggishness.

Sorry I ment if you were not in gear. Just sitting in park and holding the gas @ 2000 rpm and see if it stays there. Also make sure it's warmed up.

When holding it at 2000 rpms, it jumps up to 2500 after a second, back down to about 1800, then goes back to 2000

My truck is kinda doing the same thing. I hold it at 2k and it will drop to like 8-1200. than back up to 2k. does it every 2-3 seconds. My 95 dose not have a_Mass Air Flow Sensor) MAF on the air intake tube . Your year might. I would buy the spray that is made for that to clean. Do not use any kind of cleaner only MAF cleaner.Im about to replace my Idle Air Control Valve. Cause I noticed when I unplugged it the truck idled real high about 3k rpm but it did not surge any more. So that had me thinking.

It has a sensor connected to the fuel filter, so I'll give cleaning it a try. Thanks so much!

I had a very similar problem, it turned out to be my MAF sensor. I cleaned it several times, and it never fixed the problem. I replaced it and never had the problem again.

Ah, thanks guys! I just replaced the air filter too, now that I think about. The thing was about rusted through since the guy changes it to a performance and didn't put it in a housing
